Dmitry Shapiro, the founder and CEO of
Veoh Networks, emigrated from Russia to
Atlanta, Georgia when he was a teenager. Since then, he’s earned a degree from
Georgia Tech and started two software companies. Established in 2004, Veoh’s
goal is to transform television in the same the way that the World Wide Web
transformed print publication. Raising the initial money was not easy. Shapiro
was turned down over 40 times before he got a “yes.” Investors now include
Michael Eisner, the former CEO of Disney, Time-Warner and Spark Capital.

Dr. Tina Nova grew up on a farm in Bakersfield and earned
a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Riverside.
She is the co-founder and CEO of Genoptix, a San Diego biotechnology company,
and has been on the founding team of three other life sciences companies in San
Diego. Currently, she also serves on the board of the California Institute for
Regenerative Medicine which was established to oversee the implementation of
Proposition 71, the voter-approved stem cell research program.
