  • Rules from the BABY’s Book on Becoming a Billionaire

    • Rule #119: Paul Simon was right about building the bridge over troubled waters. And the steel that will allow you to do it is your savings. Start saving now.

    • Rule #120: Taking advantage of ill-informed customers may lead to short-term profits but over the long-term your customers will hate you and your competition will be the beneficiary.

  • Making money on mistakes. Barbara describes why she won’t be "Sprinting" for phone service much longer. Companies who allow and even encourage their customers to choose incorrect plans, are short-term thinkers.

  • Falls from grace rebound. The "golden parachute" becomes a "golden bungee" jump for CEOs who get massive paydays from private equity buy-outs. Bausch & Lomb’s CEO, Ron Zarella, made millions on his fall from corporate prominence as well as on the rebound, landing him in this week’s Corporate Hall of Shame.

  • E-"harmonizing" small businesses and lenders. Tom Markel, CEO, iBank.com, describes his unique Internet platform to efficiently connect small business borrowers with the proper creditors and capitalists.

  • First and goal. Public relations entrepreneur Evan White hopes to score a touchdown selling Super Bowl ad space to companies who otherwise wouldn’t be able to get in the game.

  • IP secrets may last forever... On this week's Ask the Expert segment, attorney Randy Broberg explains why a patent isn’t always the right solution for your business.

Tom Markel is the founder, chairman and CEO of Credentrust Software Inc., the operating system which supports ibank.com whose mission is to enable corporations to sell more products and services to their customers by providing their customers with seamless connectivity to credit and capital. In 1995, Markel founded the largest mortgage REIT on the American Stock Exchange ("IMH"). The REIT grew to more than $1.7 billion in assets by August 1997, when Markel sold his interest in the Advisor to Imperial Credit Industries, Inc. He was formerly Senior Vice President of Lepercq Capital Partners, a New York City-based investment bank. Markel serves on the board of directors for the Orange County Council of Boy Scouts of America, America's Second Harvest Food Bank in Orange County where he also served as its past Chairman. He is a member of the Order of Malta and Legatus International.

Randy Broberg, named one of the best transactional intellectual property attorneys by the San Diego Daily Transcript, is a partner at the law firm of Allen Matkins. His diverse clients have included representing General Atomics in a manufacturing agreement against a Korean company, representing tennis player Serena Williams to acquire the domain name, www.serenawilliams.com, and trademark representation of Directed Electronics which makes the Viper car alarms.

Evan White started Evan White Public Relations after graduating from California Lutheran University with a degree in communication last year. His most notable PR campaign was that of Kyle MacDonald’s quest to trade a single red paperclip for a house, which he did in 14 trades in only a year using his website oneredpaperclip.com. A current project is MyBowlAd.com which will sell ad space to smaller companies for the 2008 Super Bowl.
